Benefits of Domoscio solutions #1: the learner

Margaux Daza |

Corporate training, which for a long time was confined to the classroom format, has evolved in line with the technological advances (including AI). However, in spite of a deep field transformation, learning is struggling to meet some challenges: as it is often mass-deployed, sometimes not very engaging or too long, these factors significantly reduce its efficiency, at the expense of learners whose desire is to make learning match their own expectations and needs.

In this first article in our series on the benefits of our solutions, we look at the following question: what do Domoscio Hub and Domoscio Lock offer from the learner’s perspective? In what follows, the learner’s journey is presented chronologically, from his connection to the company’s LMS to the actual application of the skills on the field.

INTELLIGENT ASSESSMENT TO TARGET THE LEARNER’S NEEDS

Domoscio Hub’s first challenge is to accurately assess the learner’s development needs. To do this, learners launch Hub from their LMS. Once logged in to our tool via an SSO (single sign-on), they take an adaptive positioning test whose questions are adapted in real time according to the collected results. At the end of the assessment, the algorithm is able to estimate their level of proficiency on the target knowledge and skills, according to job requirements or even to their own goals for those who would want to learn in autonomy.

Unlike a traditional assessment, AI uses the historical results to select from a quiz bank the questions which will discriminate the right proficiency based on their level of difficulty. In this way, the duration of the assessment is reduced: a learner does not answer all the questions but only those that are adapted to his positioning; another learner will potentially answer other questions from the same bank to be assessed. The interest of adaptive assessment for learners is twofold: it makes the assessment more engaging and learners significantly save time in identifying their learning needs.

RECOMMENDATION ENGINE: OFFERING A PERSONALIZED LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Once the assessment has been completed and the learner’s proficiency established, Hub suggests learning modules to the user. Users can then see their personalized recommendations: when they click on one of them, they are redirected to their LMS (or another platform used by the company) and start the module. In this way, the learner’s path is automatically built with an individualized and blended approach, since the recommended modules can be face-to-face training, e-learning, micro-learning, virtual classroom, etc.

When users have followed one or several of their recommendations, the algorithm assesses their progress and upskilling process and, if necessary, recommends new learning actions to follow. Throughout the learning path, the artificial intelligence updates the learners’ model according to the collected data to define their profile, skills needs, level of proficiency, learning preferences (the most efficient formats for different topics), learning pace, etc. The learners benefit from a tailored learning experience and ensure that the time spent while learning has a real impact on their progress.

LEARNING REINFORCEMENT: DRIVING THE LONG-TERM RETENTION OF THE ACQUIRED SKILLS

Although learning may be effective for learners at the time of acquiring the target skills, learners are likely to forget a significant part of the acquired knowledge and skills without an appropriate follow-up. As the forgetting curve varies from one individual to another, the risk of non-retention of the knowledge and skills must be addressed on a case-by-case basis. The challenge of Domoscio Lock is to maintain the skills acquired by the learner over the long term and guarantee their application.

At the end of the training, learners receive a first reminder in the form of a quiz for each main concept learned in training, on the web platform or the mobile application Lock. The algorithm estimates when they are likely to forget these concepts and sends reminders by email or push notification on their smartphone, thus creating a reinforcement path with personalized and spaced quizzes according to the cognitive profile and revision history of each learner.

Besides, users have access to analytics to monitor in real time their results, progress and level of proficiency. In this way, learners get a return on the time they have invested in training and they can reap the benefits. With artificial intelligence, the user’s path is optimized, engaging and personalized: the reminders are more frequent on the least consolidated concepts and vice-versa.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AI ON LEARNERS’ UPSKILLING?

Domoscio Hub and Domoscio Lock use artificial intelligence and data generated by learners to get to know them individually and as a cohort. In this way, each user benefits from a learner profile and an adapted learning experience. This learner profile evolves over time to support users in their upskilling process and application of skills. Furthermore, AI uses historical data to train its models: the learners’ past experiences will make future learners benefit from an even more personalized experience.

As a conclusion, Domoscio solutions enhance learners’ upskilling, agility and adaptability: these assets increase their employability.
